The Western Blue Groper
Size
Young Western Blue Gropers are about 10cm long, with adults up to 1.7 meters long. They can weigh up to 40kg.
Appearances
Males are a dark blue colour and females are green. The young ones are green too. They also have big fleshy lips
Diet and Predators
The western blue groper eats many types of reef organisms, including sea urchins, molluscs and types of crustaceans. According to the book Blueback, they also like abalone. The western blue groper has basically no predators, apart from humans who sometimes fish for them for food (as blue groper meat is very tasty. This is also mentioned in Blueback).
Location
The western blue groper lives in the waters around Geraldton in Western Australia to Port Philip Bay in Victoria.
