My Water Usage and how to Save Water
These are the results of how much water my family uses:
The graph and table above shows my family's water usage over a 12 month period. As you can see, we use a lot of water in the bathroom. There are, however, many ways that we can reduce our water usage. They are listed below:
Bathroom
1. A standard shower rose supplies about 16 litres every minute. Efficient showerheads use 9 to 10 L per minute. Tip - install a low flow shower rose and take shorter showers.2. To be water efficient, we recommend a 4 minute shower for each member of your household.
Kitchen
1. By using a 4-5 star WELS rated dishwasher you could save 19 Litres of water per cycle
Laundry
1. Update to a 4-5 star WELS rated top loader and save
Lawn/Garden
1. Under Water Wise Rules all hand held hoses must have a trigger nozzle.
2. Buy drought resistant plants
3. When planting, cluster similar varieties together according to their water needs
Car/Boat
1. Make sure you wash your car on the lawn.2. Under Water Wise Rules you can wash a car or boat with a bucket, pressure cleaner or hose with a trigger nozzle. Also using a hose to flush boat engines is allowed.

There are also some other ways to save water listed below:
1. Water Tanks - Water tanks collect rainwater that lands on your roof. This not only saves water, it also saves your money!
2. Shorter Showers - A typical 10-minute shower uses from 25-50 gallons of water. 3. Collect Cold Shower Water - While waiting for the shower to get warm, you can collect the colder water in a bucket. This can then be used to water the garden.
3. Collect Cold Shower Water - While waiting for the shower to get warm, you can collect the colder water in a
bucket. This can then be used to water the garden.
4. Low-flow Shower Heads - Regular shower heads can use 5-10 every minute. Low-flow shower heads can more than halve this.
5. Washing Machines and Dishwashers - Using dishwashers and washing machines is actually, believe it or not, more effective at saving water than washing clothes and dishes by hand. Use a front loading washing machine to save even more water!
6. Check for Leaks - Checking for leaks in various locations can save a lot of water. One slowly leaking tap can waste up to 9000 litres of water a year, and a visibly leaking toilet can waste more than 60,000!
7. Keep Water in the Fridge - Keeping bottles or jugs of water in the fridge for drinking instead of waiting for the water from the tap to get cold can also save water. It is also a lot colder
8. Do not Thaw Food with Water - People sometimes thaw food with running water. Don't, the microwave or fridge will do just as good a job but it is also better for saving water
9. Dual-flush Toilets - Installing a dual-flush toilet and using the half-flush can save water too.
